One gets so caught up in life’s daily affairs that there’s little time to think much about what one’s passion(s) is. But last week while I was interviewing a potential candidate for a role in Diamond Bank something happened that really made me think about my passion. After the interview, he asked me what is the single most important thing according to me that’s required to become successful. It made me think, because ‘passion’ is the straightforward answer to this question.
I am a passionate person by design, if I do something I believe in, I give it my 100%. I feel this is the reason I am able to get so much done in a day. What is my passion then? What is it that really excites me in my work life? Is Banking my passion?
I certainly like Banking and this industry. There are definitely areas in Banking which keep me engaged. Though Corporate Banking is a mature industry, there are a lot of new areas in Banking coming up thanks to digital technology. I am not sure if I can say Banking is my passion though; then what is it? More than Banking, I think technology in Banking is something that I am really kicked about.
What is it about Technology that makes me so excited? What is it about Banking that I really like so much? I thought hard and the answer finally came to me. I like helping people grow, I like to be part of the story! Yes, that’s my passion and explains my fascination for financial inclusion, small businesses and retail. And in this passion, technology certainly becomes a great enabler.
At Diamond Bank, we work towards providing access to capital to small businesses. With the help of Technology, we make better decisions and reduce inefficiencies from the process. I am fortunate to be leading a group of people who share or have passions that gives me confidence that we will be a major influence in the Nigerian retail story.
