Like different jobs, everyone will have different activities they enjoy relaxing to. Even the same person might want to enjoy different activities on different days. I often enjoy reading books and having quiet days, playing golf, but at the same time I also enjoy going out with friends and having a fun time with family or watching television.
Throw Away The Time-Table
On some off days, throw away the time-management books and aim to go slow, for a change. I don’t mean one should sleep in till late, to each his own. But, ideally starting early has it own benefit. If you need to catch up on sleep, just go to bed earlier. Just live the day doing little things, cook if you enjoy that or just meditate.
Follow Your Passions
Personally, I often try waking up early and play Golf. Playing Golf is therapeutic for me. It is like a mental and physical exercise that gives me the right start for the day. Another thing I indulge myself in is a long run. I know that a lot of my best ideas come to me while I’m running . While you’re out in the open, the combination of invigorating activity and the calmness of spirits setting in is beautiful.
Indulging your passions is a great way to escape stress and to open your mind to new ways of thinking. Try things like playing music, reading, writing or painting. It can help you in stimulating different modes of thought that can reap huge dividends over the coming week.
Watching Televison or Movies
One of my favourite things to do on a day off is catching up on all the Television series or movies I otherwise never have time to watch from working such long hours. Game Of Thrones is top on the list, followed by Suits and Breaking Bad. Science Fiction is something interests me a lot. For me watching these shows is giving my brain a break from the usual routine things. It is a different kind of food for thought.
Family time on the weekend is so important. Spending time with my kids and wife is really important for me. Even they look forward to it, the best part of holidays. They want me to know what is happening with their lives and come up with very different views on things. I respect them for their fresh perspectives on things and they rejoice over my ideas and anecdotes.
Reflect & Introspect
Other than unwinding, weekends are a great chance to reflect and be more introspective about bigger issues. It prepares me for the week ahead. You should be able to see things in a whole new light. I always use this insight to alter my approach at work for the coming week. It helps in improving the efficiency and efficacy at work.
Days off let you think about how to relax better so you can get the most out of coming days. It helps you relieve stress and retain your creative juices in order to apply back to the next week. It is very very important to divide your work and leisure time.
